The Mederi Hospital Network, located in Colombia, is a nonprofit organizations that includes two facilities: Mayor University Hospital, and Barrios Unidos University Hospital. The network developed an environmental simulation drill program to train staff to manage emergencies related to chemical spills. The initiative aimed to improve response times and effectiveness, reduce the spill's environmental impact, and improve staff’s capacities in this field.

In their daily operations, health care institutions use a variety of chemicals, from oils and fuels to substances used for medical treatments. Rapid and efficient management of accidental spills helps reduce risks for staff, patients, and the environment.

This environmental simulation program also seeks to identify and reinforce weak points in the process, and prepare staff - health care, administrative, and students - to respond to chemical spill emergencies.
