Fiona Stanley Hospital is a major tertiary hospital in the South metropolitan area of Western Australia. Its Emergency Department is a fast-paced area with a high patient turnover. Most of the equipment used is disposable, thus producing significant amounts of waste.

The Australian region of the Global Green and Healthy Hospitals network (GGHH – Pacific) is delighted to welcome the Western Australia (WA) Department of Health as an official member of the network.

In a joint effort with the General Directorate of Disaster Risk Management and National Defense in Health (DIGERD) of the Ministry of Health of Peru, a total of 41 health establishments in that country began the process to join the network.

Located in the rural area of Masarhi, state of Bihar, India, the Vistex Hospital was founded in 2019 with a grant from the Vistex Foundation and is operated by the NGO Doctors for You. The hospital is one of the main health care centers in the region.

Tracking how health care waste is produced, processed, and recycled has never been easier. Health Care Without Harm and HECAF360, Health Care Without Harm’s strategic partner in Nepal, developed six tracking tools for health care facilities to understand and control their waste management.

We are proud to announce that the Health System of the State of Guanajuato, in Mexico, has joined the Global Green and Healthy Hospital network.

After signing a memorandum of understanding, they will work on a project for estimating the carbon footprint of health facilities.

Today, the Global Green and Healthy Hospitals Network is honored to recognize over 50 institutions who are the 2021 Climate Champions of the Health Care Climate Challenge.

In Australia, GGHH member, the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District (NBMLHD) developed a sustainability plan to provide a solid platform for implementing sustainable and climate-resilient health care practices now and well into the future.

In South Africa, Pholosong Hospital, a member of the GGHH network, worked with staff and patients to put in place an on-site garden to provide vegetables for the hospital kitchen and patient families along with creating opportunities for education and training for the community.
