We are proud to announce that the Health System of the State of Guanajuato, in Mexico, has joined the Global Green and Healthy Hospital network.
By doing so, its hospitals and health centers will receive instant membership and access to the tools, resources, and knowledge exchange forums in GGHH Connect to help their transition to sustainable, climate-smart health care.
In addition, institutions within that health system will participate in different workshops and training sessions organized by Health Care Without Harm and GGHH. As of today, 44 public hospitals in Guanajuato participated in a training program on GGHH’s sustainability agenda, and the different tools on Connect monitor progress on the goals.
For Daniel Alberto Díaz Martínez, Secretary of Health and Director General of the Public Health Institute of the State of Guanajuato, it is necessary for the health sector to continue building professional capacity to care and protect human and environmental health.
“The health sector is one of the most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, and at the same time, one of the most polluting. Health facilities and systems must lead by example to protect human and planetary health from the climate crisis. The Health System of the State of Guanajuato is assuming leadership today, and we hope that others will be inspired by its experience to move in the same direction,” says Andrea Hurtado Epstein, Climate Program Manager for Latin America, Health Care Without Harm.
