On December 1 and 2, the 4th Global Green and Healthy Hospitals Latin American Conference: Driving change for a healthy and sustainable recovery took place.

Organized by Health Care Without Harm, this event aimed to discuss the main challenges the health care sector faces and highlight the best practices and learnings from hospitals and health centres in the region, within the framework of goals set at the Global Green and Healthy Hospitals Agenda.

This conference followed the previous editions: Buenos Aires, 2013Bogotá, 2015, and San Pablo, 2017, as well as Forum on climate change and health held in Medellín in 2019. The two-days forum covered topics ranging from leadership and waste management during the COVID-19 pandemic, to chemicals, sustainable procurement, climate change, carbon footprint reduction and sustainable cooling in the health care sector.

The free event was held virtually, streamed live and had simultaneous interpretation into English / Spanish. During both days, hundreds of attendees from Argentina, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Spain, United States, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela participated.

“More than ever we need connection, communication and working in the community. The pandemic continues, but if we work together we can accelerate the change”, said Nick Thorp, Network Director of Global Green and Healthy Hospitals, who was in charge of opening the event.
