The Health Care Climate Challenge (HCCC) has reached an exciting milestone: over 500 institutions, representing more than 32,000 hospitals and health centers across 53 countries.
What unites this diverse community of institutions—from small rural clinics to large national health systems—is one shared commitment: to protect health by taking bold climate action.

A global movement for health and climate
Since its launch in 2015, the Challenge has mobilized the health sector to act on three pillars:
- Mitigation: Reducing greenhouse gas emissions and transitioning to renewable energy.
- Resilience: Preparing health systems to withstand climate impacts and protect communities.
- Leadership: Using the trusted voice of health care to advocate for policies that safeguard both people and the planet.
Through this collective action, participants are not only responding to the climate crisis — they are pioneers within the health care sector, charting a path that shows what climate-smart, sustainable care looks like in practice. By working together across borders, they are demonstrating the power of shared leadership, proving that health care can be a driving force for positive change worldwide, and positioning the sector as a leader in building a sustainable and resilient future.
The Health Care Climate Challenge shows that when health care institutions come together under one commitment, they can drive real, impactful global change.
