Global Green and Healthy Hospitals offers membership to the following types of institutions: hospitals, health care facilities, health systems (private, public, private for charity), and health, professional and academic organizations. Please find below descriptions of each category.
Low complexity – such as a District hospital providing acute care services, may include minor surgery, and can include normal childbirth but not caesarian section or other surgical intervention, serves as referral from primary care level.
Medium complexity – such as a Regional referral center. Basic specialties at the medium complexity level including: obstetrics, dental, radiology (xrays).
High complexity – such as a National (or International) referral center: services to include specialty care for cancer, cardiology, neurology or may provide only specialized care such as a Cardiology Hospital and include diagnostic services such as MRI and CAT scanning.
These members commit to:
- Endorsing the Global Green and Healthy Hospitals Roadmap;
- Implementing one of its two key priorities;
- Contributing to the network by actively engaging with GGHH and sharing progress annually.
Community health centers; primary care facilities including: maternity clinics, dispensaries, stand-alone counseling and testing facilities; dental and physician offices; diagnostic laboratories; stand-alone same-day surgery centers; stand-alone pharmacies; research laboratories; nursing homes.
These members commit to:
- Endorsing the Global Green and Healthy Hospitals Roadmap;
- Implementing one of its two key priorities;
- Contributing to the network by actively engaging with GGHH and sharing progress annually.
Organized operational multi-facility entity - governmental, private or private for charity - under a shared administration.
These members commit to:
- Endorsing the Global Green and Healthy Hospitals Roadmap;
- Working with individual hospitals in their system as well as the system as a whole to implement one of its two key priorities;
- Encouraging individual facilities in the system to engage in the network;
- Contribute to the network by actively engaging with GGHH and sharing progress annually.
- NGOs / civil society: Local, national, regional, and global non-profit organizations whose vision and mission revolve around the environment and health.
- Academia/research institutions: Universities, research centers, and academic bodies dedicated to advancing education, research, and knowledge around climate, sustainability, and health.
- Professional associations: National or international bodies representing health professionals, medical councils, or hospital associations with a focus/interest in climate and health.
- Governmental entities: Public sector institutions at the local, regional, or national level responsible for policy-making, accreditation, and procurement standards in the health sector.

Contribute to the GGHH network across three core pillars, with a primary focus on advancing climate resilience and plastics reduction:
- Amplification: Use your networks and local credibility to recruit new GGHH members and encourage them to commit to climate-resilient and plastic-free actions.
- Knowledge: Share your expertise by adapting GGHH tools for your context, run trainings, and submit case studies that demonstrate successful implementation of climate resilience and plastics reduction strategies on the ground.Integration: Embed sustainability and climate action into the policies, guidance, and structures you influence.
